Project Overview
Pool House in the Forest is a residential pavilion set within dense tropical vegetation in Guanacaste, Costa Rica — designed not as a secondary structure, but as an architectural piece in its own right. Conceived as an extension of living space, the project creates a retreat fully immersed in its surroundings, where the forest is not a backdrop but an active presence throughout.
The plan is organised around a central social space, with private areas balanced to either side — a simple, grounded logic that allows the architecture to remain calm while the landscape does the work around it.
Concrete walls provide structure and texture in equal measure. As they weather, they echo the slow passage of time that the tropical forest itself embodies. Timber ceilings and graphite composite aluminium introduce warmth and precision — a material dialogue between the organic and the crafted. Inside, lighting was designed to wash surfaces gently, creating a soft, indirect glow that shifts with the hours and deepens the sense of shelter.
Every space is positioned to maximise views outward and encourage a feeling of openness — a deliberate dissolution of the line between inside and outside. Furniture, colour and texture were selected not for aesthetics alone, but for their contribution to the wellbeing of those who inhabit the space.
