DC House

DC House is a 630 m² contemporary residence in Managua, Nicaragua, designed by Hurtado Arquitectos. Completed in 2022, the project responds to the owners' desire for a home that could accommodate gatherings while preserving the privacy of its bedrooms.

The architecture is defined by two contrasting elevations. Towards the street, an enclosed front facade limits views into the residence, with a single opening bringing natural light into the main living area. A cantilevered volume marks the entrance, where timber ceilings extend towards the front door, creating continuity between the exterior and interior.

At the rear, the house opens towards the garden. The living and terrace areas are separated from the bedrooms by a planted space, allowing the social areas to connect with the outdoors while vegetation provides a visual boundary for the private wing.

Exposed concrete is integral to both the structure and the spatial composition. Along the exterior, a monolithic wall separates the parking area from the bedrooms. Inside, another concrete wall extends beside the living and dining spaces, supporting the roof while defining the character of the interior. Timber and light-toned tiles bring warmth and contrast to the exposed material.

The owners' collection of locally crafted furniture introduces a personal layer to the interiors. Together, the architecture, materials and spatial arrangement reflect a residential design approach that balances openness, privacy and everyday use.

DC House has been internationally published in ArchDaily, Architizer, Amazing Architecture and Deck Magazine, bringing the project to an international audience interested in contemporary residential architecture in Nicaragua.
